Description:

Wild boar, also known as wild swine, belongs to the same animal species as pigs: the Suidae Family.

Besides that,the wild boar has more hair and male wild boars have four fangs. They usually stay in masses around 20-100 wild boars and when there is a critical situation, they will separate and hide in the shrubs. But sometimes, when they meet an enemy, like a tiger or leopard, male wild boars will fight and crash the enemy with their fangs.

Wild boar is a widely distributed animal; we can find them in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Southeast Asia. So, that’s why they are classed as least concern by the IUCN.  There are many subspecies of wild boar and they are divided into four regional groupings, Western, Indian, Eastern and Indonesian. Wild boar in Thailand belongs to the “Indian” group situated in India, Nepal, Burma, Western Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Colouring:
Their body is covered by hair, some have black hair and some have dark brown hair and their hair around the spine is longer than at other parts of the body. The new born piglet will have dark brown hair and also has black lines across their body.

Diet:
The wild boar has a diversity of choice similar to humans. They can eat both, plants and small animals such as reptiles, insects and also bird eggs.

Habitat:
Naturally, wild boar likes to live in the rainforest and usually wallows in the mud possibly to regulate temperature or get rid of parasites.

Reproduction:
In breeding season, males will heatedly fight over females. Wild boars which live in warm areas will give birth to their piglets in spring. But wild boars which live in tropical areas have no exact breeding season, so they can give birth to their piglets all year. The female is sexually aroused about 21 days and gestation is about 115 days for 1-12 piglets. Sexual maturity for the female is reached at the age of 8-10 months but for males it is longer because they have to be strong enough to fight over females with others. Naturally, wild boars can live up to 10 years but the maximum longevity which has been reported is 27 years.
